Questions you might have
The things small businesses ask us most. If yours is not here, just ask.
It depends on what you need, which is why we quote a fixed price for your site rather than an hourly rate. A simple site for a small business sits at the low end. The price rises with the number of pages, any extra features such as online booking or a shop, and how much writing and photography we need to produce for you.
You get the price in writing before any work starts, and it does not change unless you ask for something extra. Tell us what you have in mind and we will give you a free quote.
For a typical small business site, we aim to show you a first draft within about five working days of having your content, and most sites are live within a few weeks.
The thing that most often slows a project down is waiting for text and photos, so the quicker you can send those, the quicker you launch. If you have a deadline, such as an opening date, tell us at the start and we will plan around it.
A redesign suits you if your current site is on a domain people already know, has content worth keeping and works technically, but looks dated or is hard to use.
A new site is the better choice if your current one:
- is not usable on a phone;
- is built on something you cannot update;
- no longer describes what your business does; or
- is slow, broken or insecure.
Send us the address of your current site and we will tell you honestly which route costs you less.
Yes. The design, the words and the pictures are yours, and your domain name is registered in your name, not ours. If you ever want to move to another provider, we will hand everything over.
We think you should stay with us because we do a good job, not because leaving is difficult.
You can if you want to. Some owners like to change their own opening hours and prices, and others would rather never touch it. Tell us which you are at the start and we will build the site to suit.
If you would rather not, send us your changes by email and we will make them for you.
Nobody can honestly guarantee a ranking on Google, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What we can do is build the site properly so it has a fair chance:
- clear page titles and descriptions that say what you do and where;
- fast pages that work on phones;
- your Swindon and Wiltshire location written into the site where it belongs; and
- the site registered with Google Search Console so you can see how it is doing.
A free Google Business Profile also helps local searches a great deal, and we can help you set one up. Results build over weeks and months rather than overnight.
To start, a short description of what your business does and who your customers are, your contact details and your logo if you have one. It also helps to have:
- photos of your work, premises or team;
- a list of the services or products you want to show;
- a few websites you like the look of; and
- the login details for your existing domain and hosting, if you have them.
If you are missing any of it, do not let that stop you getting in touch. We can help you work out what to write and what to photograph.
Yes. Every site we build is designed to work well on phones first, then scales up to tablets and computers. Most people looking for a local business search on their phone, so a site that is awkward to use on one loses customers.
We check each site on a range of screen sizes before it goes live.
Once the site is built, there are usually only a few things to pay for each year:
- your domain name, which is renewed every year or two;
- hosting, which keeps the site online; and
- optional support, if you want us to look after updates and changes.
We list each of these, with its price, in your quote, so there are no surprises after launch. A security certificate (the padlock in the browser) is a normal part of hosting rather than an extra.
Just ask. Small changes, such as new text, a new photo or updated prices, are quick and we will tell you the cost before we do them. Bigger additions, like a new section or a new feature, are quoted at a fixed price in the same way as the original site.
You are never obliged to use us again, and the site is yours to take elsewhere if you prefer.
